Provision of distribution channels for Creators

After first introducing the Broadcast Channels option for select US creators in February 2023, Instagram is now making an additional DM Engagement option available to all users with an active Creator account to buck the general trend away from Newsfeed posts towards more private posts to accommodate discussions.

Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg announced the expansion of his own Instagram channel, which will allow more developers to share updates with a larger group of people via in-app DMs.

Channels are not a chat option as such, as members cannot directly contribute to the interaction. But this one gives creators another way to share relevant updates with their fans via text, images and polls, all within IG Direct.

Today, Instagram is testing additional tools to improve the experience.

First, Instagram adds questions that allow chat members to contribute to the channel.

Instagram is also experimenting with new control tools, like setting an expiration date for channels and adding a moderator to help you manage your posts.

Instagram is also testing a dedicated channels tab in your inbox to both highlight channels you’ve joined and recommend other related channels, while also testing a new advertising option that allows members of the chat to include a preview link in Stories to share to present chat examples.

New tools for reel creators

Meta announced a series of updates to attract creative talent and enable them to maximize the reach and resonance of their content on Facebook, including new Reels templates, updated Reels editing options, a daily list to help you build your presence helps provide new insights into performance etc more.

To help Facebook creators maximize their Reels creation efforts, Meta is launching a new “Inspiration Hub” on the Facebook Business Dashboard, which brings together the top Reel trends with data on the most popular hashtags, themes, and music on a given point in time.

Similar to TikTok’s Trending Notes in Creative Center, the new information provides more insight into important trends and changes that you can use to maximize the performance of your reels.

Additionally, Meta makes it easier to access the most popular Reels models with a new Model Hub in the Reels Compose feed.

Here are tips for formatting exact copies to create better reels – although I think direct copies aren’t always as great as original ideas. With that in mind, I’d probably prefer to use the templates as a guide rather than a prescriptive script—but either way, having access to more effective templates can only help you in your creative process.

Meta also integrates Reels’ text, audio, and music options into a single editing window on the Facebook mobile app, making it easy to place your creative elements exactly where you want them in the clip.
