With 930 million members (+30 million as of January 2023) and a record level of user engagement, posting relevant content on LinkedIn is essential. This is inevitable! The promise of the algorithm is that if you create relevant content for a specific audience, that audience will definitely see your content…
For example, if you’re still engaging with content related to digital marketing, you’ll see more of it in your feed. If you’re still posting about digital marketing, your audience is bound to see more of your content. And the niche approach your approach is, the better LinkedIn algorithm can direct your content to the top of the right feeds.
In this context, all updates serve to deliver the right content to the right audience!
Recent changes to the LinkedIn algorithm in 2023
Just as Instagram recently showcased how its algorithm works to improve your social media strategy on Instagram, LinkedIn revealed the major changes to its own algorithm that have been rolled out over the past few months.
Following these significant changes, there are several factors to consider before posting on LinkedIn:
- Don’t try to hack the algorithm! LinkedIn is aware of the proliferation of unprofessional Facebook-like posts designed primarily to garner attention with low-quality content. The social network is working to reduce this type of content and ensure user feeds are more relevant and informative, not just engaging.
- Focus on first-degree connections. People you know are more likely to engage with your posts than people you don’t know. As a result, LinkedIn’s algorithm will now show more posts from direct connections in feeds;
- Show your expertise by sharing quality advice. The algorithm now attempts to identify each user’s interests in order to show them more relevant niche and expert posts. To increase your visibility, make sure you not only share your expertise, but also target a specific audience and respond to their comments to start quality conversations. Recent data also shows that being the first to comment on your post is no longer penalized and even has the same impact as comments made by others.
The new indicators of success on LinkedIn
Also note that LinkedIn uses certain metrics to evaluate content: Relevance, Expertise, and Engagement.
- relevance : This is about the relevance of the message to the audience. Your content should convey ideas that resonate with a specific professional audience rather than trying to appeal to a mass audience. For example, if your industry is about community management training and you want to write about it, LinkedIn’s algorithm will make sure the right people see it.
- L’expertise : We are talking here about the expertise of the author in the field of the article. So show that you have a perfect command of the topic of the content you share to create a climate of trust. ;
- L’Engagement : The presence of “meaningful comments” from people who have historically been interested in the topic of your publication. Your followers are now more important than ever, but in quality rather than quantity: Put simply, when you post on a topic, the people who see it are the people you follow, or vice versa, then everyone who does are interested in this topic. Therefore, your LinkedIn network should be filled with people who are likely to be interested in what you share and who will connect with you.
As a creator, try to create content that not only appeals to a specific audience, but also highlights your expertise and drives real engagement!
