/The Interior Ministry announces the arrival of the dematerialized driver’s license
The digital driver’s license will soon be on your smartphone. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin reiterated this in the Le Parisien columns. “This dematerialized permit will never replace the physical version, but complement it to simplify the lives of citizens who love digital administrative procedures.”explained the minister.
This digital version can be presented at a police check or to certify that you are fit to drive. she will “useful in fighting the scourge of identity theft, but also to facilitate, for example, obtaining a power of attorney”, added Gerald Darmanin. The ministry’s press release states that this device will bring two advantages to the French: security and the fight against theft or loss.
Where and when will the digital driving license be available in France?
The digital driver’s license will be accessible through the France Identity application, which already allows you to provide proof of identity, although it is currently only available in Early Access. The device will be tested in three pilot departments by the end of the year: Eure-et-Loir, Rhône and Hauts-de-Seine.
“We want to test in three representative areas of the country with a mix of urban and rural and measure the level of popular support,” explains Anne-Gaëlle Baudouin-Clerc, director of the National Agency for Secure Titles (ANTS).
The generalization is planned to take place in early 2024, once the France Identity application will be available to everyone. Note that you can access your permit even without an internet connection.
On the way to the digitization of administrative services
This initiative is part of the strategy to digitize the administrative services of the state, such as the introduction of the digital vital card or the visioplainte. At the same time, in March, the European Commission also proposed the introduction of a European digital driving license.
